New Born

While the arrival of a newborn baby is a momentous occasion, it often is accompanied by many questions.  The stress associated with caring for a newborn, the sleepless nights, and the adjustments to a dramatically different daily routine can be overwhelming.  We’re here to help!  Don’t ever hesitate to call with any questions or concerns.

When Your Baby is Born

Whether you deliver at Lowell General Hospital, or any of the other hospitals in our region, the newborn nursery is staffed 24/7 with pediatric hospitalists (pediatricians who exclusively practice inpatient medicine) and neonatologists (pediatricians who are specially trained in the care of infants, particularly premature babies, and those with medical issues).  These pediatric hospitalists will manage your baby's care throughout the inpatient stay.  The hospitalists and nursery staff communicate with our practice and help facilitate the transition to newborn care in our practice after your baby is discharged.   We usually see newborns within 24-48 hours of hospital discharge based on the recommendation of the discharging provider.

Please call us after your baby is born so we can arrange timely follow-up (this is a good job to give the fathers!).
